Keeping these young minds in school is not only important for them as individuals, but it is an important investment into the futures of their families and their community.
In 2002, UPAVIM introduced a second scholarship program, Beca de Carerras. This program awards a small number of scholarships to graduates of junior high with good grades to continue studying for a 3 year vocational degree at a public high school. The recipients are chosen by a group of UPAVIMas and other community members, according to their financial need and willingness to commit to service-oriented volunteer work in the community. Most students in Guatemala stop their schooling at the end of 6th grade because their parents do not have the financial means and many students do not even have the opportunity to reach the 6th grade. These scholarships provide a life-changing education to many deserving students that would not be able to reach their full potential without the assistance of a scholarship. In the past, UPAVIM has awarded as many as 600 scholarships a year and would love to be able to do this again! Thanks to everyone that has helped over the years and to those of you who continue to provide this support!
It takes only $63 for the year to send one child to school for the year. That is only $5.25/month. Why not sign up for our monthly donation program and sponsor two children for $10.50/month?
