“A Ganar!” To Win!

This month UPAVIM began a new partnership with Children International’s “A Ganar” Program. This is a really exciting development for UPAVIM and Esperanza as a community. A Ganar is a program for 18-24 year olds that provides training in different areas of work. Initially training is through the development of sport skills, later linking these skills to employment. They are  taught the fundamental principles of what it means to be a good employee: self-discipline, communication, respect. The participants then receive technical and vocational training, and a placement as an intern. Participants receive a mentor to help ensure their success in the program. Participants of this program have an 80% success rate in finding steady employment in Guatemala.

This is such an exciting development because this demographic truly is the most at risk to gang violence and the most vulnerable if they are not in steady employment. UPAVIM would like to thank Children International and A Ganar for the opportunity to work together, and we look forward to seeing the success of this year’s participants.
