Aventuras en Lectura!
The library reading program, Aventuras en Lectura (Reading Adventures), started on October 29 with 65 students enrolled from Pre-Kindergarten to Sixth grade of primary school. Viviana, the UPAVIM librarian, started the program in 2008. “Many students have problems in school with reading. During the school vacation, they just watch TV and play in the streets. This program motivates students to read and gives them time to appreciate books and reinforce their reading skills.” Viviana says.[blockquote align=”right”]This program motivates students to read and gives them time to appreciate books and reinforce their reading skills.[/blockquote]
Besides reading books and stories about animals, the environment, family and of course, adventure, students test their comprehension skills through writing and verbal activities, play games, write and perform skits, research new topics and make crafts. Every Friday, the students bring snacks and watch a movie related to the week’s topic.

I like that we are corrected when we write a word incorrectly and that the teachers help us to learn.” The program continued for the entire month of November and students each received a diploma attesting to their enjoyment and commitment to reading.
