Support #FairTuesday

When is Fair Tuesday?

Fair Tuesday is December 2, 2014. Instead of doing your shopping on Black Friday, skip the crowds and wait for Tuesday!

What is Fair Tuesday?

#FairTuesday is an ethical shopping initiative created in response to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The goal of #FairTuesday is to inspire conscious consumerism and show how an everyday purchase can change lives in a whole community. #FairTuesday features fair trade, ethical, and eco-friendly brands and invites other businesses to take a step towards sustainability.

The movement was launched in 2012 by Global Goods Partners, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering women around the globe through fair trade when Jennifer Gootman, then-executive director of Global Goods Partners, and social media expert Ksenia Avdulova met at an ethical fashion event in Brooklyn.

Over the course of five short weeks in 2012, #FairTuesday reached over 3 million people and brought together 135 partners in 13 countries.

Why Support Fair Trade?

Our consumer spending choices affect people’s lives around the world. The products we buy are often made in conditions that harm workers, communities and the environment. The more consumers demand more humane and environmentally sensitive products, the more they can help change the conditions under which products and food are produced or grown globally.

How Do I Identify Fair Trade?

When you see the Fair Trade Federation logo you will know that wholesaler, retailer or producer has been certified by a strict set of standards created by the Fair Trade Federation and are 100% fully committed to Fair Trade practices. There are other certifications for commodities but always look for the logos. Many people and websites will claim to be fair trade but have no understanding of what it really is. Not all products will necessarily have the FTF logo but members will always use it on their websites and printed materials. UPAVIM products state that they are “Members of the Fair Trade Federation.”
