Currently the Alternative Learning Center has classes from Kindergarten to 6th grade, attends to over 150 children and employs 8 teachers and a Director. A monthly fee of 175 quetzales (US$23) covers tuition costs, though uniform, books, materials, and registration costs are separate. The school is funded by fees but mostly from the sale of our handmade crafts.
In past years, the crafts program was able to fully fund the Alternative Learning Center. In recent years, due to rising costs and a slower economy, the funds contributed through the crafts program are no longer enough to fund 100% of the Learning Center’s expenses.
Donations help to cover teacher salaries and montessori training, classroom materials and supplies, and breakfast for each student.
